Active Support

Course duration: 3 hours

Venue: The course can be delivered at the customer's venue subject to the availability of a suitable area.

Target group:

All staff, carers for people with ASD or learning difficulties.

Main Learning objectives 

  • Indentify what “Active support” means in practical terms.
  • Understand active supports 3 key principles.
  • How to use the 5 “ways of giving support “.
  • Understand how to use “Thinking in steps”.
  • Dealing with problems.
  • Understanding the use of activity support plans and keeping track records.
  • Team work to achieve outcomes for people we support.
  • How to plan to avoid stagnation.

Assessment Methods

The method of assessment, to ensure that learners have gained the required knowledge, skills and understanding relating to Active Support:

  • Formative assessments – a range of informal assessment procedures throughout the course.
  • Practical assessment – applying skills in roll play scenarios
