These qualifications have been developed to raise awareness of key food safety issues and to provide employees with an induction to food hygiene, prior to undertaking the Foundation Awards in Food Safety.

Who needs these qualifications?

The Food Safety provide an ideal solution to staff induction training including:

  • new employees with minimal or no prior food safety knowledge
  • employees handling low-risk or wrapped foods (category A)
  • front of house employees, such as waiting or check out staff
  • back of house employees, such as kitchen porters or warehouse staff

The Introduction Awards are also suitable for employees for whom English is a second language or those with special needs.

Duration: Half-day programme

Assessment: Multiple choice examination

Prerequisite: None

Suggested progression: Food Safety or Healthier Food and Special Diets

Why is this training important?

Food business operators must ensure that employees are supervised, instructed and trained in food hygiene matters in order to guarantee safe food to consumers.

Refreshment of this qualification is recommended at least every three years.

Foundation - Refreshers

Food Safety . . .

  • Induction into Food Safety for Manufacturing(Refresher)
  • Food Safety Awareness for Retail(Refresher)

Who needs these qualifications?

All candidates who have taken the Food Safety are recommended to take a refresher course three years after completion.

Food Safety regulations and best practice are constantly changing and in order to guarantee safe food to consumers, food business operators must ensure their employees are kept up-to-date.
